Tatiana D.
Preservation of Culture & Community Subcommittee Chair
Junior @ ICA Cristo Rey Academy
Tatiana is a junior at ICA Cristo Rey Academy. Besides going to school in the Mission, she has lived in Bernal Heights for about 8 years and is a proud District 9 resident. At a very young age, she found a passion for activism – specifically in seeking environmental justice, mental health awareness, accessible healthy food and involving nearby communities to be active in their civic duty. Professionally, she has interned in various fields including pro bono law firms, k-8 schools, community gardens and homeless shelters. Personal activities she enjoys include running, gardening, and listening to music.

Ella Tan
Education & Development Chair
Senior @ The Nueva School
Ella is a senior in high school and passionate about social justice. She cares about improving youth development in marginalized communities by focusing on equitable access to education, opportunities, and resources. She’s interested in addressing social issues through policy work that creates lasting and widespread impact. Through volunteer work and collaboration, she wants to strengthen advocacy among youth and ensure voices are both heard and put into actionable changes. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, shopping, and baking.

Sasha Fried

Sophomore @ Urban School of San Francisco
Sasha Fried is a sophomore at the Urban School of San Francisco and a District 9 Resident. At school, she’s involved in the varsity softball team and is a member of the Jewish Student Union. Sasha is passionate about making public transportation safer and more effective for students and has done advocacy work for policies addressing issues such as housing insecurity, equality in public schools, and public safety. Sasha enjoys working with kids as an assistant teacher at her synagogue, and spends her free time baking, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

Maximiliano "Max" Trujillo

Senior @ The Bay School of San Francisco
Max is a Mission District native and senior at The Bay School serving his first term representing District 9 on the San Francisco Youth Commission. He co-leads Bay’s Latino/e Student Affinity Group, sits on the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Council, and previously served on the SFMTA Youth Transportation Advisory Board. Max founded D9’s youth council and hopes to work with Supervisor Jackie Fielder’s office to uplift youth voice in the District — especially those of marginalized and underserved communities.

Mira Korngold
Environment Chair
Junior @ Lick-Wilmerding High School
Mira is a high school student and District 9 Youth resident passionate about youth advocacy. She focuses on improving the environmental justice, food insecurity, and public transit cleanliness, especially in the District 9 area. She actively collaborates with local and surrounding organizations to ensure youth can express their voices in policymaking. At school, she is involved in environmental committees and clubs, committed to creating a more beautiful earth and safer community. She also volunteers with organizations connected to her school and neighborhood. As a District 9 resident, her goal is to build a safe, inclusive, and clean city for youth and other residents. In her free time, she enjoys playing lacrosse, sewing, baking, and spending time with friends.

Lindy Chow

Sophomore @ Lowell High School
Lindy is a student at Lowell High School. She lives in District 9 and is passionate about improving the cleanliness and health of our community and ensuring public safety for all. She works as an outreach officer as part of the District 9 Youth Council and strives to project youth voices to improve the condition of our environment. We work with local organizations and city leaders to improve and share our opinions on decisions and policies being made or revised. At school, she serves as the historian of Lowell Crochet Club and is a member of Lowell Key Club. She enjoys playing the piano, badminton, and doing arts & crafts in her spare time.

Sokuntheary Prak

Senior @ Lowell High School
Sokuntheary Prak is a senior at Lowell High School and resides in District 9. She has a profound interest in local politics and amplifying youth voices, stemming from her passion for advocacy and change. With her involvement in the District 9 Youth Council, Sokuntheary hopes to raise awareness to vigilant issues in San Francisco, specifically addressing weapon and drug access, as well as access to healthcare resources. At Lowell, Sokuntheary partakes in the Southeast Asian club where she serves as the Co-President and founder, plays Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse, and more. Outside of school, Sokuntheary is involved in various youth-led organizations and enjoys exploring the city.

Shamsi Brown

Sophomore @ Lowell High School
Shamsi Brown is a sophomore at Lowell High School and is excited to get to work with the D9 Youth Council as he wants to make it his mission to improve parks and recs for kids all over the city. He feels that something that lacks in SF is more accessibility to events and sports activities for youth who would like to get out of the house. How are they going to be able to if the spaces aren’t clean, held together by regular supervision and finally have a time specifically reserved for youth?

Helen Zeng

Helen is a high school student and a District 9 Youth resident. She is passionate about community engagement and youth advocacy, hoping to make a change for those who are affected by current and uprising issues. At Lowell, Helen is deeply connected to the community, engaging in the Lowell Badminton Team, Red Cross, California Scholarship Federation, Shield and Scroll Honor & Service Society, and many more. Aside from school, Helen enjoys taking pictures, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with her friends.

Julian Lopez
Preservation of Culture & Community Subcommittee
Senior @ Mission High School
Julian has been living in the Mission neighborhood all his life and has seen how the community has changed. He has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club throughout his whole school life, participating in activities that bring his community closer. He aspires to bring people close together and make everyone have a voice and don’t feel left out. He helps volunteer at my school or neighborhood when there’s time, when they need a helping hand of help. He wants his community to be safe and for it to be a spot for all diversity to be together. Some things he does for fun are walking up hills, playing video games, and organizing tournament events for all ages.

Junior @ Urban School of San Francisco
Klara is a junior in high school. She cares deeply about environmental justice and uplifting youth voices, and is currently volunteering at a middle school to help kids learn robotics. Moreover, she has previously volunteered with Parks and Rec. She frequents Valencia everyday to visit her favorite book store, and she enjoys watching movies at the Roxie, playing with her two dogs, going for runs, and spending time with her friends.

Jimena Ortiz

Jimena is a senior at ICA Cristo Rey in the Mission District of San Francisco, where she’s lived most of her life. She’s completed four internships across education, business, and finance, and she currently interns at Capital Group in San Francisco’s Financial District. As president of “Two Languages, One Meaning,” she leads initiatives that support parents and students facing language barriers through translation and advocacy. As a bilingual, first-generation student, she’s passionate about social justice, immigration reform, and mental health awareness. Outside of school and work, she plays competitive soccer and aspires to become a lawyer dedicated to empowering her community.

Adriel Oyagata

Adriel is a 12th Grader at the Bay School of San Francisco who deeply cares about his community. He comes from a family rooted in the Mission district, where both his mother and father were and continue to be street vendors on the streets of the Mission District and Downtown. He participates in SFMTA initiatives and was part of the first cohort of Coro Northern California after the pandemic. As a person of color, Adriel has always carried a commitment in his heart that stretches further than home. At school, he was selected as a captain for the tech support department at his school. His primary goal is to uplift the voices of youth who are underserved and undervalued, because he believes that the youth will be the face of our nation tomorrow.

Jack Higgins

Jack is a Trilingual (Cantonese, Mandarin, and English) senior at The Bay School devoted to uplifting and caring for District 9 and all of its residents. He co-leads Bay’s Social Justice Club, sits on the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity council, previously served as a mayor elected “U.S. Youth Ambassador” in Shanghai, China, is a multi-sport athlete, and is a lover of all things music and fashion. Jack joined the council to give his fellow D9 youth a voice and an avenue to fulfill their civil and civic duties.

Diana Vazquez Sanchez

Senior @ Mission High School
Diana is a high school student at Mission High School in District 9. Passionate about youth voice, community advocacy, and helping others to succeed. Diana works as a librarian assistant and collaborates with teachers to uplift pupils affected by issues like violence and inequity. She actively collaborates with administrators and city leaders to ensure young people are heard in policymaking. At school, Diana is involved in programs and volunteers at neighborhood events. As a District 9 student, she is committed to building a safer, student-voice-to-be-heard, and more inclusive city for all youth. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, sewing, reading, writing, and spending time with friends.
